Biography

Dr. Suzanne Zeitouni received her undergraduate degree (BSc in Biology) from the University of Portland, Oregon. Upon graduating, she worked at Legacy Health Science Center in Portland under the directorship of neurobiologist, Dr. Julie Saugstad, until entering PhD candidacy at Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans. Dr. Zeitouni completed her dissertation in the laboratory of Professor Darwin Prockop, MD PhD, at the Center for Gene Therapy at the Tulane School of Medicine. Her work involved mesenchymal stem cells from adult human bone marrow and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and atherosclerosis.

Dr. Zeitouni’s post-doctoral work started at the newly formed Texas A&M HSC (TAMHSC) Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IRM) at Scott and White Hospital and continued in TAMHSC Department of Systems Biology and Translational Medicine under the mentorship of Professor H. Wayne Sampson. With Dr. Sampson, she worked on many projects in collaboration with Scott and White Hospital, the Veterans’ Affairs Research center and other groups in the TAMHSC network. This was followed by a second postdoctoral position in the lab of Dr. Lee Shapiro, in the TAMHSC Department of Surgery and Scott & White Department of Neurosurgery at the VA Hospital in Temple, working on post-traumatic epilepsy before returning to the IRM in 2013. Dr. Zeitouni currently holds a research scientist position at the IRM where she perform research on a number of ongoing projects, administrative duties as acting scientific administrator of the IRM, and supervises students.
